Capture text with your smartphone's camera, or from an image stored on your phone. There are only a handful of bits.Īmazing accuracy and quick results. Even though you may not have as many words to type, this app is very handy. It will convert most fonts I have found to be text-readable and recognize the majority. It doesn't recognize all font types, but it will recognise the most unique ones. One problem I have found with this method is that if the picture was taken from a book it might miss certain words at the ends because of the curves in the spine. Simply take a photo of any item with words and the program will show you the text. It would be easier to copy paste text without inserting line breaks. You can only view a small portion of your photos. It is difficult to find the way to access your photos. It's far superior to other photos I have seen. It's frustrating to scan paragraphs and have to manually go through them to remove any unnecessary line breaks. I wish it did not break up the text line by line in order to make it match the image. It is a great app that I recommend to anyone. I use the Text Scanner app to multitask, and it helps me manage my time. Then I copy the text to my "text-to voice" app to make it available to me while driving. Because I'm not able to take the time to go through everything, I just scan the pages of books and other documents. If I don't like it in the first 2 minutes, I will move on. Graphic design is always my first priority. Although I have only scratched my surface, it is clear that I am very happy with what I found. There were also no missed or dropped words. I found no missed words and the spelling was as exact as the original. It is a little singed and a bit crumpled, but it was flattened. **ADDENDUM** I scan a page printed from a coffee-stained paper. You can choose to save as either a PDF or text. It takes three clicks: tap the save icon and then select'save as'. True (I scan one page at a time), but you can save each scan. You can only scan one page at a given time. This is why I purchased the premium edition. No other version can compare to this one. It is used mainly for translating foreign texts that contain many accent marks. I have been using this app for several weeks. This is the most important $10 investment I could make in school. It's $10, and I can do it unlimited number of times. The school experience is transformed forever. THESE WORDS WORKED EXCEPTIONALLY AND ABOVE ALL, VERY BLURRY. A picture of the powepoint slide was taken from a lecture with close to 200 words. It's great! Update: I still love it and paid 10 dollars to upgrade to the premium edition. You don't have to type in long strings of numbers, shipping tracking numbers, or other lengthy strings. It is a simple and elegant app, which can be extremely helpful. You will need to fix the image more often if you are farther from it.Ī major game changer. The best way to get the shot is from above and in the center. I was able to accurately read low quality originals. It is the best OCR I have seen for a long time. It can convert about 20 pages before it asks for money. ![]()

![]() ![]() All this is spiced up by rock ballads that we need to go look for these days first. The album Lights Out virtually bulges with stellar, vintage tracks, superb riffs ‘made by Schenker’, and powerful lyrics. Nor was their style blues-tinted and bleary-eyed from drug overuse as Led Zeppelin and their ilk of that time. Straight and true with a crunch, but not as hard-assed as AC/DC ever were. Lights Out gets you this special brand of Hard Rock with a sharp edge and Michael’s super-precise guitar play. Once out of UFO in 1978 for the first time, Schenker moved to found the Michael Schenker Group or MSG. That he never managed to stay for longer periods with the band is a pity. Other albums of that period were No Heavy Petting or – then again – Force It. The 1977 Lights Out is the fourth record of this series. Out of the nine albums recorded with UFO, five of them originated from this era. The first stint – the aforementioned Schenker years – were Michael’s longest continued and most productive engagement with the band. His personal issues, however, created enough dissent to have him hired and dismissed several times over many years. His talent undoubtedly helped UFO to shine on the international stage. Anecdotally, Michael’s brother Rudolf still plays for the Scorpions to this day. Michael’s relationship with UFO was spotty, though. Who better to choose than German-born Michael Schenker, a founding member of the Scorpions. Back in the ’70s, a super-gifted young lad, almost too young to be that good a guitarist, joined this band led by Phil Mogg in search of a riff maker. One of the best periods in the distinguished career of UFO are indisputably the Schenker years. They have created great, great Hard Rock over time and helped pave the way into what is today called metal. And in 1938, Churchill Downs-located in the heart of bourbon country-made the Mint Julep the official drink of the Kentucky Derby. (He also lists a whiskey-based variation on the recipe called the Whiskey Julep.) But after the Civil War, whiskey seems to have taken the place of brandy. “Ice was an expensive luxury, and presenting someone with an overflowing cup of ice showed them how much they were worth to you.”During the first half of the 19 th century, juleps would likely have contained rum or French brandy in fact, seminal early bartender Jerry Thomas gave a brandy-based recipe for the Mint Julep in both of his books. “Plus, piling the ice in mounds over the rim of the glass was a way for bartenders and proprietors to show their appreciation for customers,” he notes. In many Southern states in the 18th and 19th centuries, “mint was often used as a remedy for upset stomachs or digestive issues, and sweetened spirits were often used as a delivery method for medicines,” says Bryson Downham, beverage director at New Orleans' Toups South and Toups Meatery. From there, it was a simple jump to muddling just mint with spirits, Downham says. But by 1803, in the United States, the julep was understood as a "dram of spirituous liquor that has mint in it, taken by Virginians in the morning”-as written by Englishman John Davis in his Travels of Four and a Half Years in the United States of America. It wasn't only Virginians enjoying variations of this drink. ![]() Early renditions of juleps would have been made from all types of spirits and might have contained any number of medicinal herbs. It may be a simple hexagon-shaped floor tile, or a complex pattern composed of several different motifs. Repeated patterns are found in architecture, fabric, floor tiles, wall patterns, rug patterns, and many unexpected places as well. In this section, we will focus on patterns that do repeat. What's interesting about this design is that although it uses only two shapes over and over, there is no repeating pattern. Notice that there are two types of shapes used throughout the pattern: smaller green parallelograms and larger blue parallelograms. The illustration shown above (Figure 10.101) is an unusual pattern called a Penrose tiling. Apply translations, rotations, and reflections. There is no reflectional symmetry, nor is there rotational symmetry.Ī pentomino is the shape of five connected checkerboard squares.\)Īfter completing this section, you should be able to: In glide reflection, reflection and translation are used concurrently much like the following piece by Escher, Horseman. ![]() A rotation, or turn, occurs when an object is moved in a circular fashion around a central point which does not move.Ī good example of a rotation is one "wing" of a pinwheel which turns around the center point. Rotations always have a center, and an angle of rotation. Rotation is spinning the pattern around a point, rotating it. To reflect a shape across an axis is to plot a special corresponding point for every point in the original shape. If a reflection has been done correctly, you can draw an imaginary line right through the middle, and the two parts will be symmetrical "mirror" images. Most commonly flipped directly to the left or right (over a "y" axis) or flipped to the top or bottom (over an "x" axis), reflections can also be done at an angle. The translation shows the geometric shape in the same alignment as the original it does not turn or flip.Ī reflection is a shape that has been flipped. These were described by Escher.Ī translation is a shape that is simply translated, or slid, across the paper and drawn again in another place. There are 4 ways of moving a motif to another position in the pattern. He adopted a highly mathematical approach with a systematic study using a notation which he invented himself. There are 17 possible ways that a pattern can be used to tile a flat surface or 'wallpaper'.Įscher read Pólya's 1924 paper on plane symmetry groups.Escher understood the 17 plane symmetry groups described in the mathematician Pólya's paper, even though he didn't understand the abstract concept of the groups discussed in the paper.īetween 19 Escher produced 43 colored drawings with a wide variety of symmetry types while working on possible periodic tilings. One mathematical idea that can be emphasized through tessellations is symmetry. If you look at a completed tessellation, you will see the original motif repeats in a pattern. The term has become more specialised and is often used to refer to pictures or tiles, mostly in the form of animals and other life forms, which cover the surface of a plane in a symmetrical way without overlapping or leaving gaps. They were used to make up 'tessellata' - the mosaic pictures forming floors and tilings in Roman buildings The word 'tessera' in latin means a small stone cube. When you fit individual tiles together with no gaps or overlaps to fill a flat space like a ceiling, wall, or floor, you have a tiling. A tessellation is created when a shape is repeated over and over again covering a plane without any gaps or overlaps.Īnother word for a tessellation is a tiling. ![]() ![]() Jersey City is a location that offers the most coworking spaces compared to other places, and it also provides plenty of mass transit transportation options for traveling to surrounding cities like New York.
